Harrogate and Ripon Beekeepers Association runs a number of courses for beginners each year.
The Long Course for Beginners is our most in-depth course which runs over three terms with theory lectures culminating in a number of weeks of practical beekeeping sessions.
The Weekend Course covers many of the same topics as the Long Course for Beginners, but does not go into such depth and the teaching is concentrated over the course of just one weekend.
Taster Day sessions are offered at both RHS Harlow Carr and at Harewood House for anyone who is considering beekeeping but is not quite certain that it is the hobby for them and would like more knowledge before committing to the cost and time of a longer course. Topics covered include a little about bee biology, types of hives, sources of equipment, apiary siting and bee management, but will be flexible and will aim to answer the questions that the course members raise.
The Weekend Course and Taster Days also have a practical element to them - weather permitting there will be the opportunity to open a hive and to handle a frame of bees.
A list of forthcoming courses is given below. For further information on these courses, please click through to the course details page.
